I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I received my doctorate in clinical psychology with a minor in forensic psychology from The Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago Campus. I completed an APA-accredited internship where I spent a majority of my time working in an intensive outpatient program for alcohol and drug addictions. I continued my work with addictions and co-occurring disorders through my post-doctoral work at Walden House (now HealthRight360) in San Francisco, CA. I stayed at Walden House beyond licensure and had several wonderful experiences during my time there. I was an Intake Assessment Specialist, a therapist for the outpatient program, a therapist for the residential dual diagnosis program, and a supervisor for doctoral level interns. After moving to San Diego, I opened my private practice. Throughout my experiences, I gained a love for working with the LGBTQ+ population and have continued to love working with this population in my private practice.
I value that my education, training, and work have given me experience working with people from many different backgrounds and people struggling with various difficulties and disorders. I have extensive experience working with varying addictions and recovery from trauma, and have received training to conduct Prolonged Exposure Therapy for those recovering from trauma. I truly believe in the effectiveness of this therapy.
I also have personal experience dealing with secondary infertility and through this experience, became fully aware of all of the emotional and physical difficulties that accompanies these life circumstances. I am passionate about helping people navigate these difficulties whether the goal is to create/complete your family or to move on and grieve the loss of creating that family.
All of these years of training and experience have led me to who I am as a clinician. I am compassionate, gentle, straightforward, and non-judgmental. I am able to laugh with you, feel your pain, and help you see new and varying perspectives. I believe it is important to find ways to cope with issues in the moment, but I also value exploring problems more in depth to heal the underlying cause. I have found the importance of mindfulness (being in the moment) as this often allows us to slow things down, make healthy decisions, and stay grounded. I also believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is unique and special; therefore, it is important to find the right clinician for you.
